Aloka Beauty

Naga Earrings with Green Tourmaline

Here we go again...my insatiable appetite for Indian things continues to thrive. I recently bought these lovely earrings from my friend Lakshmi who designs and hand-makes jewelry as a hobby here in New York. Hmmm...this hobby may become more than just a hobby in my prediction. I must say, I'm quite a fan of her work.

"These earrings take inspiration from the hood of the cobra--all the lines are serpentine. The marquis-cut faceted green tourmaline set in gold vermeil present a regal look." says Lakshmi Sonbuchner creator of Aloka Jewelry. "Aloka means vision, glimmer, an opening, of the eyes in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit."
.
I'm grateful to Mary for introducing me to the talented Lakshmi whose wonderful soul is reflected in her intricate work. Taking much pride in her work, all profits are donated to Asha for Education (ashanet.org), which supports educational projects for the poor in India.
.
A couple of other lovely pieces...

Mynah Bird Silver Wings

Blooming Lotus

Her beautifully line (which she is always adding to) can be seen here. Hmmm, I think I might just wander over there now...

She and her husband, Tim, also have a fantastic photography website, which features breathtaking views from their travels in Kerala, Jaipur, Tamil Nadu and Agra.

Lakshmi is quite the renaissance woman with a myriad a talents. I am easily transported back to my beloved India through her lens. You too can also mind-travel there by clicking here.
